BiographyI've always felt that if you love something enough, you should know how to do it yourself. That's why I pursued a career in acupuncture and oriental medicine. ![]() Gilian Lata I began my higher education with the intention of becoming an archaeologist, but at some point discovered that the academic life was not for me. I was looking for something that was more hands on, and I realized that although being an archaeologist sounded exciting, there was much more in-class time than field time. I've always had an interest in herbal medicine and alternative health but didn't know much about the field. I began doing research and realized that not only was I extremely engaged, but that this would be a great direction to focus my life. The thought of being able to treat illness and promote a state of health in my patients as well as myself seemed extremely rewarding. I've always been fascinated with the rich historical tradition of eastern countries and this blended perfectly with my desire for an alternative health lifestyle and career through the study of Traditional Oriental Medicine. During my schooling at Emperor's I got pregnant with my daughter, Madison. Having never been pregnant before, I had no idea what to expect and discovered that the side effects of pregnancy could be alleviated with the use of oriental medicine. In addition, I found that giving birth and being a mother were the biggest joys in my life. After that I decided to direct my studies to the field of fertility and women's health, concluding that this would give me the greatest satisfaction as a practitioner. There are other areas that I have chosen to focus on as well, led by my life experiences as well as instinct and intuition. Addiction therapy, pain management, nutritional therapy, stress relief and it's associated symptoms are just a few of my areas of interest. I have always been committed to providing my patients with the gold standard of health care. To this extent, I consistently stay abreast of the latest health and acupuncture/herbology issues as well as continuing post-graduate work and attending seminars and lectures presented by acupuncturists and other medical professionals. I encourage all of my patients to become educated about their condition and will always take the time to answer questions and provide supportive information. You are your own best advocate! © |
